Willow Womens Center is Supporting Local Families with Free Diapers

The cost of having a baby is one of the factors parents consider when facing an unplanned pregnancy. In fact, poverty is the most common reason that women and their partners choose not to continue with a pregnancy.

Disposable diapers alone cost an average of $80 per month. The 37.9 million Americans living in poverty often find themselves foregoing one need to fulfill another, for example waiting to pay a bill so that they can afford diapers. While there are programs to assist with formula, healthcare, and housing costs for those who qualify, finding assistance to cover the cost of necessities such as diapers can be more difficult.

Willow Womens Center believes the best way to support women facing an unplanned pregnancy is to provide them with the tools, resources, and practical support they need to be successful parents. By helping families bridge the financial gap that a newborn can create or widen, we hope that women and families feel supported and better able to meet the needs of their families.

Willow Womens Center has launched a Diaper Assistance Program serving the Beloit, Wisconsin area. Whether a family needs one-time help or ongoing weekly assistance, we are here to help.

How to Get Free Diapers from Willow Womens Center

Taking care of a new baby is a full-time job, and in many cases, programs that are designed to help involve processes that are so tedious they are not helpful at all. The easier it is to get what you need, the more time you can spend resting, bonding with your new baby, and recovering from childbirth.

Willow Womens Center wants to ensure that accessing the supplies you need is as easy as possible. Getting disposable diapers through the Diaper Assistance Program is simple. All you have to do is:

  • Call 608.312.2025 and share your first name and which size of diapers you need.
  • Pick up your diapers on Tuesday from 9 am to 4 PM if sizes are available.

It really is that easy! Your weekly diaper pickup is also a great time to connect with the team, learn more about services available, and schedule an appointment if needed or ask for assistance with their search for resources.

How You Can Get Involved and Help Spread the Word

The Diaper Assistance Program at Willow Womens Center relies on donated funds and supplies to operate. You can help us bridge this crucial gap for families in several ways:

  • hold a diaper drive with your friends, neighborhood or civic organization
  • donate diapers or wipes directly
  • share our needs and services with your network.

Hold a Diaper Drive

Hold a diaper drive to help us keep our shelves stocked! Schools, local businesses, churches, workplaces, and even family and friend groups have come together to collect diapers and drop off donations. These events can provide dozens of packages of diapers at once, reaching many families and infants in need in the community.

One way to encourage donations during your drive is to partner with a local business to offer one or more door prizes – a gift card, a basket of goodies, or an experience. Give away one raffle ticket for every package of diapers and draw a winner at the end of the drive!

If you would like to coordinate your diaper drive with a national holiday or national month, consider the following:

  • December is National Giving Month
  • March 8th is International Women’s Day
  • October 17th is International Day for the Eradication of Poverty
  • May 2nd is Baby Day
  • November 20th is National Child’s Day
  • September 26th is National Family Day

Donate a Pack of Diapers or Wipes

You can also help us meet the needs of local families by donating a pack of diapers or wipes when you’re able. We have donors who drop off unopened packages of diapers that their infant has outgrown, others pick up an extra pack of diapers or wipes when they buy groceries and drop them off once a week or once a month.

While each donor gives in the way that makes the most sense for them, every donor and package of diapers helps make a big difference in our community.

Spread the Word

Whether you are able to donate or not, simply spreading the word can help!
You can do that by:

  • Letting others know that we are looking for donated diapers and wipes
  • Sharing information about our diaper assistance program with families in need

Many of the people who donate to Willow Womens Center learned about us from a friend or colleague, so you have the power to make a big difference just through word of mouth.

The Positive Impact of our Diaper Assistance Program for Families in Need

The economic climate has changed over the last few years, making money tighter for many families. A free pack of diapers per week can lessen the financial burden, making it easier to cover household expenses.

Additionally, sometimes staff and the person picking up diapers get to know each other and visit during the pick-up. Many clients love this opportunity to connect and share what is going on in their lives.
